Sheperd’s Pie

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 tbsp flour
1 ½ cups water
1 beef stock cube
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp salt
Pepper to taste
1 bay leaf
¼ tsp thyme
1 can kernel corn

Topping

6-8 medium potatoes
2 tbsp butter
½ cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Grated cheddar cheese

Directions

Brown meat, breaking it up. Drain off fat, add onion and fry meat until well browned. Sprinkle with flour and stir to coat the meat. Gradually add the beef stock, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, bay leaf and thyme. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 mins or until desired consistency is achieved. Put into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread corn over meat mixture. Cook potatoes, mash and add milk and butter. Spread over corn and sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350 F for 20-30 mins.
